About Boreal Botany

Boreal Botany began as a project exploring plant blindness—an effort to help people notice the plants they walk past every day. Over time, it has grown into something broader: a place to document the process of learning botany while studying the plants of Alaska’s boreal forest.

This site follows my journey as I work through botany courses, labs, and field observations. Along the way I share plant identification concepts, botanical vocabulary, and weekly field notes that help make the language of botany easier to approach.

If you’ve ever felt like plants are just “green background,” you’re in the right place. Boreal Botany is about slowing down, learning how to observe plants more closely, and gradually turning the landscape into something readable.
